Joining The Society

Membership in the Junior Strings, the Intermediate Strings and the Surrey Youth Orchestra is determined by auditions for all players. 

Our auditions for the 2008/2009 season are scheduled for Saturday, May 24th, 2008.  Contact us for an audition appointment.
To audition, each participant needs to:

ü play a piece of music about 1 page long of their own
      choice, unaccompanied
ü play a scale in a key of their own choice
ü sight read several lines of music given to them at the audition

Each audition lasts approximately 10 minutes.

If you know of qualified young musicians who may be interested in playing in one of our groups, please encourage them to contact us.

Musical proficiency required for each group is as follows:

• Junior Strings - Minimum age 8 years, with Grade 3 Royal Conservatory / completion of Suzuki Book 2.
• Intermediate Strings - Minimum age 9 years, with Grade 5 Royal Conservatory / Suzuki Book 4.
• Surrey Youth Orchestra - Minimum age 12 years. Strings minimum Grade 8 Royal Conservatory, Winds minimum of 2 years playing experience.
