The Society
Membership in the Junior
Strings, the Intermediate Strings and the Surrey Youth Orchestra
is determined by auditions for all players. Auditions
are generally held twice each year, in May and in early
September. Individual auditions can be arranged at other
times during the year, as well.
There
are limited openings for our September 12th, 2009 auditions: for the Youth Orchestra, all flute, clarinet,
oboe, bassoon and trumpet sections have been filled. Openings
are still available for French Horn, trombone and tuba sections. There
are openings in all 3 orchestras for violins, violas, cellos
and bass.
Our auditions
for the 2010/2011 season are scheduled for May 29th, 2010. Contact
us for an audition appointment.
To audition, each participant needs to:
ü play a piece of music about 1 page long of their own
choice, unaccompanied
ü play a scale in a key of their own choice
ü sight read several lines of music given to them at the audition
Each audition lasts approximately
10 minutes.
Musical proficiency required
for each group is as follows:

Junior Strings - Minimum age 8 years, with Grade 3 Royal Conservatory / completion of Suzuki Book 2.

Intermediate Strings - Minimum age 9 years, with Grade 5 Royal Conservatory / Suzuki Book 4.

Surrey Youth Orchestra - Minimum age 12 years. Strings minimum Grade 8 Royal Conservatory, Winds
minimum of 2 years playing experience.
